"Okay — but who actually decides where the money goes?"

Since we went public with the Giver Army, that's the question I get most. From friends. From donors. From the people I respect most. And I love it, honestly. It's not cynicism — it's stewardship. So instead of answering it in fragments across a hundred comment threads, let me walk you through the inside of the machine.

Validation happens before your dollar exists

Most giving works backwards. A need appears, money gets raised, and then somebody sorts out the details. The verification — if it happens — happens after the emotion.

We flipped it. At GiveSendGo Charities, the 501(c)(3) behind the Giver Army, a need doesn't become grant-eligible because it's compelling. It becomes grant-eligible because it's confirmed. Real person. Real circumstance. Verified on the ground before anything gets funded under our name — or yours.

Is that slower than reacting to a headline? Yes. That's the point. The first doubt — is it real? — gets answered before you're ever asked to give.

No mystery middle

The second question — will it reach a person? — is really a question about the middle. You've heard the stories. Dollars in at the top, something much smaller arriving at the bottom, fog in between.

So we built for direct. Grants go to the actual need — the family after the wildfire, the responder after the flood, the missionary actually going. When we say boots on the ground, we mean people we know, standing where the need is, confirming what's real.

The movement brings the crowd. The charity brings the trust. That's the whole architecture.

A receipt you can actually read

The third question — where does the money go? — deserves more than an annual pie chart. Every grant is tracked, and members see the result: who the crowd showed up for, what was funded, what changed. We call it the roll-call.

The Giver Army has funded $148,687 in grants through August 2026.

And here's a rule I'll put in writing: real numbers over flattering ones. We'd rather report a smaller true number than a bigger fuzzy one. Where something's an estimate, we'll call it an estimate. Where we miss, we'll say so and show the correction. Trust isn't built by perfection. It's built by being checkable.

One more piece of honesty

Giver Army contributions are pooled and granted at the charity's discretion across our cause areas — disaster relief, medical crisis, ministry, and more. Members share the needs that break their hearts, and those voices genuinely inform where grants go. But nobody's buying a designated outcome, and I won't pretend otherwise. That discretion is exactly what lets us move at the speed of real need, to the most validated need, every time.

Vetted before funding. Direct to the person. Tracked to proof. Discretion held accountably. That's the machine.
