Turning Tragedy into Triumph: How Your Support Fuels Hurricane Helene Recovery

March 11, 2025
Dear Generous Givers,

It’s been 4 months since Hurricane Helene made landfall and we are happy to announce that 100% of your donations have made their way into the hands of those who needed it most in this disaster. Our prayers are with them. These funds were collected together to provide the families with 100% of every donation. Thank you again for your donation. Like always, at GiveSendGo Charities, disaster efforts always get 100%. We are thrilled to share with you some of the profound impact your generosity has had on those in desperate need.
Hurricane Helene Survivor Dominique Bailey Leads Community Recovery with GiveSendGo Support

Despite being denied FEMA assistance due to her home insurance coverage, Navy veteran Dominique Bailey refused to stand by when her South Carolina community was hit hard by the storm. She distributed food, cleared debris, offered charging power banks, and provided groceries—all while lacking electricity, water, and internet herself. GiveSendGo Charities awarded Dominique a $5,000 Care & Relief Grant from the Hurricane Relief Fund, enabling her to buy water, ice, coolers, gas, chainsaws, and other essential resources. Her story shows how one person’s unwavering commitment can transform an entire neighborhood. Dominique’s resilience and dedication exemplify the profound impact that targeted support can have in times of crisis. Her story is a testament to the strength of community and the difference that compassionate assistance can make. Chimney Rock Village: Overcoming Catastrophic Flooding

In North Carolina, Chimney Rock Village grappled with catastrophic flooding and landslides, leading to significant infrastructure damage and the destruction of numerous homes and businesses. In response, the village established the Official Chimney Rock Village Disaster Relief Fund to support residents and business owners in their recovery efforts. Recognizing the urgent need, GiveSendGo Charities awarded a $5,000 Care & Relief Grant to the fund, directly aiding the community’s rebuilding initiatives. Expressing gratitude, the fund’s administrator conveyed: “On behalf of Chimney Rock Village, thank you for supporting our disaster relief fund. On September 27, the remnants of Hurricane Helene caused catastrophic flooding, landslides, and devastation in the Village resulting in major losses of the town’s infrastructure and total destruction of many homes and businesses. Although the recovery will be long and extensive, the Village is making significant progress with plans to rebuild. The Disaster Relief Fund is being used to directly provide grants to residents and business owners for essential needs.” As of February 2025, the village has raised $221,740 towards a revised goal of $350,000, reflecting the growing needs as more residents assess their losses. Temporary roads and bridges have been constructed, allowing residents to return and evaluate damages. The village remains closed to the general public, with access limited to business owners, residents, volunteers, and contractors. Mayor Peter O’Leary shared an optimistic outlook, stating: “2025 starts with hope and the feeling that this is the year of recovery for Chimney Rock Village and Hickory Nut Gorge. I think we will look back on 2025 as an amazing year when the new Village started to rise from the muck and debris to become the future, even better Chimney Rock Village.” The Disaster Relief Fund continues to provide grants to residents and business owners for essential needs, exemplifying the community’s resilience and determination to rebuild. Official Patriot Gear: Support for North Carolina

Western North Carolina faced unprecedented devastation, with entire communities submerged and essential infrastructure reduced to rubble. Responding to this crisis, Official Patriot Gear (OPG) launched the “Support Hurricane Helene Victims in North Carolina” campaign to provide immediate relief to affected families. Recognizing the critical need, GiveSendGo Charities awarded a $5,000 Care & Relief Grant from our Hurricane Relief Fund to bolster OPG’s efforts. During a subsequent mission to North Carolina, OPG representatives visited the town of Marshall, witnessing firsthand the unimaginable devastation. They collaborated with local leaders, such as Steffanie, who spearheaded the construction of temporary sheds for families living in tents. Additionally, OPG provided a $10,000 donation to Penland & Sons, a 100-year-old, third-generation department store that was a community staple before its destruction by the hurricane. As of February 2025, the campaign has raised over $140,000, thanks to the incredible generosity of the OPG community and givers like you.
